Finishing Projects Wabi-Sabi Style

How to finish craft projects:
1.  Wait for a rainy day.
2.  Find some good binge t.v. show to watch (I watched and recommend The Bletchley Circle on Netflix. It’s a murder-mystery starring a group of women who met as WWII Code Breakers at Bletchley Park. A+ for character development and historical value!).
3.  Make, make, make.
4.  Take some pics.

The blanket isn’t done yet, but closer! The stripey circle pillow has been half done for over a year. Now it has a similar, but slightly different stripey pattern on the back and is all sewn up. It’s a little wonky, or should I say, wabi-sabi (the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection).

Embracing wabi-sabi is my m.o. these days. I have let go of trying to make things perfect. Small, spare, bent, broken, wonky–these are qualities to embrace. Even watching too much binge t.v. can be embraced occasionally.

I am hoping to give some homemade gifts this Christmas, but I’m a little stuck as to what to make for people. I’m hoping that I’ll get inspired by finishing up some of these other projects.

Are you doing handmade Holidays?  What are you making for people?

Crocheted Mixed-Stitch Stripey Blanket

IMG_2607One thing I love to do to stay cozy in the winter months is crochet.  I’ve been working on a crocheted mixed-stitch blanket ala Little Woollie.  Mine is shown here, with modeling help from Lil’ Pupper who loves crocheted blankets.  He likes to get under them and then stick his nose and teeth through the holes, wrestling and growling like he’s a scary monster.

Anyway, I really like littlewoollie.blogspot.com and was especially enamored with her mixed-stitch stripey blanket.  It’s kind of free form, and you know, I love free-form anything.  I really want to add some Catherine Wheels, but I’ve been feeling lazy and just doing EASY stitches.  I have to say, I think I love lazy-easy more than I love Catherine Wheels.  Well, that’s me, at least that’s me now.  Who knows maybe I’ll feel adventurous and complicated tomorrow.IMG_2299

Craft Project Photo Updates

Hi and thanks for stopping by!  We’ve been doing this and that over here at the easyhome. I’m trying to figure out how to make these photos more splashy, so they don’t look like, “here’s the ashtray I made at camp.”  Maybe they just look like ashtrays from camp, and you know, that’s okay with me because this is projecteasier and we’re having fun and taking the easy route!

Update on the Denim Rag Rug:  I decided to go rectangular.  I’m about three pair of jeans (legs only) into it.  It’s 43″ long and now I’m thinking, “Why did I make it so long?!” Anyway, it’s coming along and I am so excited by how soft and cushy it is.  I had been looking at these expensive floor mats that keep your feet from hurting, but I think this upcycled ‘beauty’ will do the trick!  That is, if I ever finish it!

FH has colored the space-age sugar skull masks for our Halloween costumes and they look cool, don’t they?  He’s so creative and fun!  We actually have a party to go to on Friday night and I’m washing my black and white Mexican embroidery blouse now!  I kind of wanted a little black veil and flower to go on her head, but not sure that will get taken care of.  Let me know what you think!
